How do I know if my siding needs replacing?
Movement, gaps at joints, soft spots, repeated paint failure and water stains inside are all signs. Whether repair or replacement makes sense depends on how much of the wall is affected, which needs an inspection.
What is behind the siding?
Sheathing, a weather-resistive barrier and framing. Their condition is only visible once the cladding is removed, so related repairs cannot be priced in advance. Ask how that is handled in your agreement.
What matters more, the material or the installation?
The installation. Flashing, fastening and the detailing around windows and doors are what keep water out. A good product installed poorly still fails.
Can siding be replaced on only part of the house?
Sometimes, though matching the existing finish and colour can be difficult, particularly on a weathered elevation. Ask for the match to be assessed honestly before you decide.
Do I need a permit for siding work?
Often yes, and requirements vary by municipality. Ask which parts of the scope require permits and inspections and who files them.
Should windows be replaced at the same time?
If windows are also due, doing both together is usually more efficient and produces better weather detailing at the openings, because flashing is installed as one system.
Can siding work be combined with painting or roofing?
Yes. These trades share access and interact at the roof edge and trim, so combining them avoids repeating setup and improves the junctions between them.
How long does siding replacement take?
It depends on the size of the building, the number of openings, weather and whether repairs are found during removal. Ask for the expected sequence.
How much does siding cost?
