Does the old flooring have to come up first?
Usually, and it is also the only way to see the subfloor. Occasionally an overlay is possible, but it raises floor height and affects doors, thresholds and appliances. Have the existing floor assessed before deciding.
Why does subfloor preparation matter so much?
An uneven or damp subfloor causes hollow spots, cracked grout and movement regardless of the material above it. Ask how levelling and moisture are addressed in your scope.
Can the same flooring run through several rooms?
Yes, and it usually looks better and reads larger than breaking at every doorway. It has to be planned as one job, so include all the rooms you are considering.
What flooring suits a Florida home?
Tile, large-format porcelain and suitable engineered products are common choices, largely because of moisture and temperature. The right answer depends on the room, the subfloor and how you use the space.
Do I need to move out during flooring work?
Rooms being worked on have to be empty and are unusable during installation and curing. Whether you stay depends on how much of the house is involved at once. Discuss phasing if you need to remain in the property.
Who moves the furniture?
Clarify this before work starts and have it written into the scope, including whether appliances, large items and floor-standing furniture are included.
Will baseboards and doors need adjusting?
Often. A change in floor height affects door clearance and how baseboards meet the floor. Ask whether trim removal, reinstallation or door trimming is included.
Can flooring be done as part of a larger remodel?
Yes, and it is usually best sequenced after the dusty work and before final trim and paint. If you are planning other work, mention it so the order is correct.
How much does flooring cost?
Material choice, room sizes, subfloor condition and the amount of preparation required all change the figure. It is priced after the floors have been seen and measured.
